When the world becomes scary for you and your children

It is not an exaggeration to say the world has become a scary place. wherever you look there is terrorism and hate. The United States is seeing unprecedented hate that has been lit on by Donald Trump’s campaign and has reached proportions we have not seen before with the mass shooting in Orlando and the sad death of the Voice Singer. Europe suffers the same. The middle east has always been a place of turmoil and separation and hate leading to inefficiency, weakness, and a lack of safety to say the least.

On top of the overall gloomy global picture, there’s the smaller picture on a community level. Parenting has become a chore, a marriage for more than 2 years has become an accomplishment, and friendship has been simplified to snapchats sent to each other. On a personal level our self-worth has become social media popularity, our attention spans are below a few seconds, and as we do less and less brain activities and physical activities we have become more fatigued physically and mentally.

The picture is sad and gloomy. Through it all a quote I read on Facebook which is the one useful comment I have read through the 100s of posts I’ve scrolled through keeps coming to my mind.

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” – Fred Rogers

look for the helpers

look for the helpers

Unfortunately, in this day and age we do not trust many of the helpers. We have lost trust in doctors due to the commercial influence on official guidelines and due to a large majority of doctors focusing on money. We have lost trust and faith in government officials from representatives to the highest chair due to their personal interest and continuous lies.

However, I do know for a fact there are many helpers that sometimes do not hold a title at all.

Those helpers are our only chance of continuity. The helpers on this planet need to get together, help each other to survive and raise and breed more helpers. A helper could be a writer, an educator, a physician, a charismatic person, a loving soul, a sympathetic human. The only prerequisite is a clean conscience, a heart, and a strong mind to separate the million messages of hate that brainwash us everyday. We can all be helpers. I hope our children become helpers. We can not give up hope and be scared of the world. We need to get out and fight with education, with hope, and with an effort to work on ourselves first and the world at large. Or else, what are we going to leave for our kids?
